Measles, mumps and rubella are contagious diseases found around the world which can cause serious complications, so it’s important that unvaccinated travellers are fully protected.

The MMR Vaccine

2 doses of the vaccine are required, at least 28 days apart, before departure. The MMR jab is given as injections into a muscle in the upper arm or thigh.

What are the side effects of the MMR vaccine?

Some patients might experience soreness around the area where the jab has been administered. Other side effects include feeling tired.

  • In rare cases, people can also:

  • develop a small temperature

  • feel slightly unwell, irritable, weak or sick

  • feel tired

  • have a mild headache

  • lose their appetite

  • have an upset stomach
