Most individuals (about 95 percent) who acquire polio do not develop symptoms. When they do occur symptoms may range from a mild illness with fever, to symptoms of meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain) or paralysis.

What are the side effects of the Polio vaccine?

Some patients might experience soreness around the area where the jab has been administered. Other side effects include feeling tired.

  • In rare cases, people can also:

  • develop a small temperature

  • feel slightly unwell, irritable, weak or sick

  • feel tired

  • have a mild headache

  • lose their appetite

  • have an upset stomach
